Vista Education is proud to be delivering the Active IQ Level 3 Exercise Referral course in partnership with the Atlantic Racquet Centre in Bideford.
On this course, students will learn how to design and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes for clients with a range of long-term health conditions.
Students need to already hold a Level 2 fitness qualification, and exercise referral at Level 3 provides a stepping stone towards continued study at level 4, such as Cardiac Disease and Postural Stability Instructor.

Did you know that you can support our work and have a chance to win up to £25000 by playing the North Devon Community Lottery? And this month, you could also win a special prize in the Super Draw!
So far, we have raised over £200 towards supporting people with long term conditions. Thanks to all our existing players!
Search North Devon Community Lottery and sign up there. You don't need to live in North Devon to play, so please share with friends and family from further afield.
Thanks!

As the weather gets warmer, we all need to think about what we can do to stay cool. Our sessions will be going ahead as normal, we are particularly lucky that the hall at Roundswell stays cool as there is little direct sunlight and good ventilation. We will be looking at the ventilation at Westward Ho! too.
If you dont think it is safe for you to travel in the heat, please let us know, and we will see you next week. If you are attending, stay hydrated throughout the day, out of the sun as much as possible, wear thin, loose clothing. We will adjust the content of the sessions accordingly.
There is some great advice here from the UK Health Security Agency

What are all these people doing on the floor, and smiling? Long post alert - but please read.

They have been bottom walking, Jane Fonda style (for those of you who remember her keep fit in the '70s). If you find yourself on the floor unexpectedly, you may want to use this technique to get yourself into a position where you have a support such as a stair or a chair, that you can use to get back up. Especially important if you find kneeling and crawling uncomfortable.

It takes time to build these skills for people who have previously fallen or are concerned about their balance. Before we even attempt getting to the floor, we need to build mobility and strength through the trunk, arms, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. Typically, it's around week 12 that we start to work on first steps of getting to the floor.

Week 20 of our commissioned Steady on Your Feet 24 week programme in Ilfracombe, and the camera doesn't lie. We witness improved confidence to get down, in the knowledge that they can get up! This is only possible with a programme of sufficient duration, delivered by highly qualified postural stability instructors, that includes tailoring to individual needs, and follows well researched methods, such as FaME.

We know that the ambulance service is called regularly to pick up uninjured people from the floor. How many of these calls can be avoided, and the associated costs, by provision of this programme? Not to mention how empowering it is to be able to get yourself up and not need to call for help. Wouldn't it be great if this service was funded consistently?
